Sorry, I Just Have to Get This Off My Chest

I'm looking at my calender, and I swear to you it says 2006. So, that would be the 21st century, right?


Then why are we still using cassette tapes for classes at ECC!?

Ah ... that felt better.

It seems that the Japanese teachers prefer tapes for pronunciation lessons: rewinding tapes is easier than CDs. This however leaves open the question of why don't we have both?

For my part, I'm sort of lucky: for one of my classes there's a CD, and since I have both an iPod and a nicely portable set of Altec Lansings, I can bypass the need for dicking around with tapes entirely (though not, sadly, in kid's classes where it's most useful.)
